Discussion Questions for November's Books
As mentioned in my previous posting, here are some links to some helpful discussion questions about our two books. If you do plan to use them, read them after you have read the books, just so you don't spoil the plot development for yourselves.

November's Meeting (I can't believe the year is nearly over)
Despite it being a wet Wednesday, after Melbourne-Cup, we all gathered at Lilyfields to discuss Rebecca and The Interpretation of Murder. We also welcomed two new members to the group. It's fabulous to have you aboard!
Lilyfields turned it on for us with a new, and might I add, wicked dessert assiette. So a big "thank you" to Lilyfields for making our group feel special.
After our discussion on October's books, our thoughts turned to the books for this month and what we might like to start winding down with. The two we decided upon are
#1. Thirteen Moons
by Charles Frazier
Available in regular and large print at the BCC Library
#2. Life's Golden Ticket: An inspirational novel
by Brendon Burchard
As before, you can elect to read one or both of the novels and share your thoughts with us.
I will attempt to find some reading guides on-line and I will post them here. Obviously, reading guides are optional, I myself find them helpful in revealing literary devices and aspects about a work that I might have missed. (The grey matter is a little weary after 10 months of intensive French language study).

OCTOBER MEETING UPDATE
Hullo again.
Thanks to everyone who made it along on Wednesday 1st October. Thank you to everyone who let me know that school holidays made it too difficult to juggle the meeting and manage children as well. We'll catch up in November.
Now that everyone is back at school we can get back to our routines and reading quietly over a cuppa (my idea of heaven-on-earth).
October's book was "One Book: Many Brisbanes", a collection of short stories about Brisbane, by Brisbane writers and everyone shared their thoughts on their favourite stories. I had some favourites and I had some that saddened me, particularly the story set in Zillmere WWII. It was great to sit down and share my thoughts and learn something from everyone else about their experiences of Brisbane and how they felt the stories related to them, or how the stories were far removed from their lives.
Revisiting the stories that I hadn't enjoyed so much, through the eyes of those of you who had enjoyed them, gave enabled me to find renewed interest in them. Thank you to everyone for your candour about your loves, likes, and dislikes.
November Meeting Information
Our next meetings are on November 5th for Morning Tea at 10:30am and Dinner at 7:00pm. Please remember bookings are ESSENTIAL for Dinner. Please contact either the Resturant (leave your name and contact number and say that you're booking for the Kenmore Book Club dinner, or send me an email at kenmorebookclub@y7mail.com). Bookings for morning tea are desirable as I can print off enough copies of information for everyone.

LETTER BOX DROP
I've been out and about over the last couple of days doing letter-box drops of new flyers. Please feel free to bring along any interested friends, the Kenmore Book Club is all about making new friends who share our love of books.
This month's meeting falls over the school holidays and I know that some of you will be tied up with family duties for this meeting. Please check in for details on this month's meeting on the weekend as I will be ferrying little ones around immediately after the meeting so I may not be able to post the notes from the meeting on Wednesday straight away.
I've checked with the BCC Library and there are enough copies of this month's book and next month's books so that we can save our hard earned pennies for coffee and cake.

Books For October
Hullo again
Okay, so we haven't yet formally reviewed "One Book: Many Brisbanes" but at our first meeting we decided to pick out the titles for October in case we finished September's offering too quickly :-)
These are the books that we will be reviewing in November (gosh, is in nearly Christmas time already?!?!) and they can be booked on-line at the Brisbane City Councils website below

Title: Rebecca
Author: Daphne Du Maurier
“Last night I dreamed I went to Manderley again” – is often quoted as one of the most famous first lines in literature. The haunting tale of mystery, memories and the past that the young, second Mrs de Winter must face at Manderley is a story that never losses its appeal. If you haven’t read this classic for some time it is well worth revisiting and is still a great story for discussion.
This book is available at most libraries and there are several listings for Audio Books which might be useful when one is cleaning house.

Title: The Interpretation of Murder
Author: Jed Rubenfeld
"A murder mystery with a clever plot, The Interpretation of Murder is set in New York in the early 20th century. Dr. Stratham Younger, a student of Sigmund Freud is asked to investigate a murder. Using some of Freud’s teachings, Younger analyzes the actions, motives, relationships, and personalities of all those involved in the crimes. The New York scene is very well drawn and Freud’s part in the novel adds an interesting twist."
There are large print editions of this book available at Indooroopilly and Audio Books available for some of the other libraries (A quick call to Indooroopilly Library will explain how to order that in to the library).
I'm going to talk to the co-ordinator of the Mobile Library which parks off Marshall Lane every Tuesday too see if we get the books brought there as well the month before, to ensure that we can read through all the books before the allotted time is through.
If anyone needs assistance with booking their books (no pun intended) through their home computers, please contact the Brisbane City Council on (07) 3403 8888.

Brisbane Writers Festival
Hullo again Kenmore Book Club.
Well the Brisbane Writers Festival was a huge success and I went to every session that I could (I think about 10 or 11 in the end). The topics were as diverse as "Boy's Own Adventures Through the Oil rigs" (my title) with Paul Carter - a brilliantly funny young man who fell into writing after he failed his psychiatric evaluation, through to a gut-wrenching story of a young Newsweek journalist who lost his fiancee after she was targeted and killed by the Taliban while she was undertaking aid work in Baghdad. I think that there wasn't a dry eye in the auditorium after Michael finished sharing his story with us.
I was also lucky enough to meet with 5 of the "One Book: Many Brisbanes" authors and they were genuinely delighted that we were reviewing their book for book club.
I will be bringing the program along with me to next Wednesday's meeting to share with you all and to talk about some very exciting, and amazing books I discovered.
Shortly I'll post the books that the Book Club decided upon for October. There's a couple of completely different ones so that we can talk about more than one book. Both are available in large numbers at the Brisbane City Council Library.
